I began my journey with teaching English in Barcelona, Spain in a TEFL course in 2000. It inspired me to pursue teaching ESL. I earned a MA Certificate in TESL from the University of Illinois in 2015 and a Master's degree in TESOL here at the University of Northern Iowa in 2022.
International Experience
- When I went to Spain for the TEFL Program I did not really know what I wanted to do for a career yet. I value all of my education but the immersion experience was spectacular. After the Program ended I hiked in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains and ate Tapas with my friends. Being immersed in a culture is a great way to learn!
Why do I enjoy working with international students...
I took Spanish classes in the USA for 5 years. I can relate to the desire to learn new languages and about different cultures. I also relate to the frustration and confusion learning a new language can bring. My aim is to help international students feel comfortable while here in the USA while learning English. International students' successes are my successes. I enjoy seeing them acquire the English language.
