International Education Week 2021

In mid-November, we dedicate a full week to celebrating international education across campus. Anyone interested in sharing their own culture or learning about cultures different from their own is encouraged to participate in one or more of our exciting activities and events! Below is a QR Code that leads to a form that you can fill out to sponsor, plan, or help take part in one of our activities for this amazing week!

Led as a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, UNI highlights cross-campus efforts to prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from other countries to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. IEw highlights

International Education Weeks Week Global Skills Event

Join Professor Chris Schrage, the College of Business, and her students to look at various Sustainable Development Goal projects.  Food samples and information about the various areas and regions that the students have chosen to focus their work on will be provided. 

Kick Off Invitation with QR code RSVP

Join us for our Kick-Off event to start celebrating International Education Week here at the University of Northern Iowa! RSVP is required, and can be accessed through the QR code on the poster above. Come and enjoy musical performances from on campus organizations and individuals, the debut of our International Education Week video, a very special Key-Note speaker and more! 

Passport Instructions

Participate in International Education Week and you have the possibility of winning BIG! We are launching our Passport Program throughout the week!  Attend at least five events to be entered into a drawing to win gift cards, UNI swag and our Grand Prize (1) $200 and (1) $300 scholarship. Join us on Friday, November 19th during our weekly coffee hour event to see if you have won!! 

Howl's Moving Castle

Join us on Monday, November 15th from 6-8pm in Rod Library Rom 287 to watch Howl's Moving Castle, a fan favorite! Released in 2005, this film has gained national attention and a following around the world. In the film, Sophie lives an uneventful life in her late father's hat shop until one night she comes face to face with a witch. After this night, Sophie finds out that she has been cursed and turned into an old woman. Deciding that she can't stay at the hatters and her home any longer, she begins a journey to find the well known magician Howl, to break her curse and find the witch that changed her life forever. What happens to Sophie? Who is the witch that cursed her? What is this fire that speaks to her? Come join our office and find out! Snacks will be provided and we encourage everyone to dress in their comfiest clothes and hang out with us! 

Learn to Cook with Nino

Head down to the State Room in Maucker Union to watch Nino show us how to make Badrijani Nigvzit and learn more about Georgian Food! You will even be able to sample this wonderful recipe along with chatting and learning about Nino and her home country. Sign up is required and we hope to see you there!

Explore and discuss the opportunities that YOU can have with the Peace Corps after graduation at this panel hosted by the IE office and including some of our many talented faculty and staff. 

Taste of Culture

This is one of our most popular events and this year is no different! Come and join the Office of International Engagement explore over 15 different countries in two hours at our "Taste of Culture" event! Explore different cultures, chat with our students, and eat delicious food from around the world! We also will be having numerous performances throughout the two hours, so make sure to come ready to learn, engage and have FUN!

Learn to Cook with Amina

It's time for another cooking workshop! Head down to the State Room in Maucker Union to meet Amina and have her teach YOU how to make delicious Butter Chicken! Samples of the food will be offered, and an explanation of the food and Amina's own culture will follow. We hope to see you there!

International Engagement is partnering with the CME to discuss all things INTERNATIONAL at the Hot Wings Hot Topic. Get some food and join the conversation!

Dance Workshop with the MOVEment Poster
