Seasonal festivities, international holidays, U.S. experiences, trips around the Midwest, and fun programming are at the heart of our activities. Conversation Partners

The UNI CIEP Conversation Partner Program pairs American students, staff, and professors at UNI with students in the UNI CIEP.  Partners meet a minimum of one hour each week throughout the academic year.  It is required that students speak English for one hour during the time they are together.  This provides a cultural exchange for both partners, while one is learning English in a conversational setting.   Students have the opportunity to improve English skills, experience American culture, and share their own culture with others.  Students attend various athletic and cultural events together, make traditional food, visit local stores or watch movies together.

The UNI Culture and Intensive English Program is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 academic year! Apply here!

International Friendship Program

The International Friendship Program’s goal is to match international students in our program with families within the Cedar Valley area. These connections hope to foster relationship building, communication, and a sharing of cultural experiences through a minimum of one get together each month (although we encourage families and their students to spend as much time together as they are comfortable with).

If this opportunity sounds like something you would be interested in taking part in, or something you want to learn more about, reach out to or if you are a student and are interested in this opportunity Please fill out the International Students Form  or if you would like to host an international student please complete the Families Volunteer Form

International Education Week

Every Fall Semester, in mid-November, UNI and the rest of the country (and some parts of the world) dedicate a week to celebrate and recognize International Education. Our office works to provide a week full of events, activities, panels, speakers, and more to not only celebrate our international community on campus, but the efforts of the entire university to create an educational community grounded in global initiatives and methods.

Check out 2021 IEW here! what we did this last year. If you would like more information about IEW reach out to Ava Deitrich  ( with any questions or ideas for next year’s festivities!
