Cultural Activities

Programs offered by the UNI Culture and Intensive English Program and International Engagement Office enhance the quality of language instruction by providing hands-on opportunities for cultural enrichment. A variety of activities are provided to fulfill a variety of needs.

During their courses, CIEP students engage with our Retired Senior Volunteers (RSVP) through a joint program in collaboration with the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley. These volunteers comes to UNI's campus once a week and spend at least an hour engaging in casual and guided conversation with current English Language Learners.

In addition, CIEP students can be paired with Reading Tutors to help them enhance their reading and conversational experience.  Reading Tutors are either current UNI students or community members looking for more connection and offeirng support to our English Language Learners.

Finally, all of the CIEP students are invited to engage in events and programs offered by the Office of International Engagement, celebrating American and worldwide cultural celebrations. These offer students an opportunity to engage with the general public, UNI, and International community.
