Pathway Program
Culture & Intensive English Pathway Program Track
UNI has established new pathway programs for students who need additional English support but do not want to delay their academic degree progress. Students will be guided to enroll in one semester of coursework focused on developing their English language skills and introducing tools for academic success. All courses will be given academic credit that counts toward graduation.
Requirements & Eligibility
Students are eligible if they:
- Meet the academic requirements of their program
- Show proof of Minimum English proficiency (see criteria below)
- Agree to the conditions of their admissions
For Undergraduate Students
- TOEFL 61-78/IELTS 5.5/Duolingo 95-100
- CIEP IV/V - Students can take the online placement exam
One Semester Pathway Outline:
- ENG1005: College Writing and Research (3 credits)
- COMM 1000: Oral Comm (3 credits)
- General education or introductory major course identified by academic advisor (3 credits)
- UNIV 1055 Strategies for Academic Success (2 credits)
- UNIV 1059 Theory to Practice (1 credit x 3)
For Graduate Students
- TOEFL 70-78/ IELTS 6/Duolingo 100
- CIEP IV/V - Students can take an online placement exam
One Semester Pathway Outline:
- GradCourse 5000: ESL Academic Writing & Reading (3 credits)
- GradCourse 5000: Fluency, Listening & Presentations Skills (3 Credits)
- Introduction to graduate studies (3 Credits - Introductory course currently offered by the student’s academic department/college)
- Extended Orientation: Course (1 Credit, 8 weeks (2 hours per week)
- Students must successfully pass (B or above) the pathway courses to take unrestricted courses in their second semester
- Students can opt to take TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo to meet the minimum requirements for full admission into their second semester
