Cultural activities are an integral part of international education at UNI. The OIE provides a variety of fun and entertaining opportunities for our students to experience everyday life in the Midwest.

Paint and Sip: Hot Chocolate Edition | Jan 30th | 6-8pm | Threehouse Campus Ministries 

Join us for our FIRST EVENT of the semester! Get creative and cozy with us at Paint & Sip: Hot Chocolate Edition! Enjoy a relaxing evening of painting while sipping on warm, delicious hot chocolate — with all the toppings, of course! No experience needed, just bring your creativity and come ready to unwind, connect, and express yourself through art. All supplies (and cocoa!) provided.

Valentine's Day Chocolate Making | Feb 12th | 5-7pm | St. Stephens Basement  

Join us for a heartwarming event where you can make (and taste!) delicious Valentine’s-themed treats like chocolate-covered strawberries, dipped pretzels, and more! Whether you’re treating yourself or making goodies to share with friends, this is the perfect way to celebrate the season of love and friendship. 

Also, join us to learn more about Valentine's in Japan, traditions, and make small valentines cards to send home! All supplies provided — just bring your sweet tooth and good vibes!

Lunar New Year Celebration | Feb 20th | 6-8pm | Threehouse Campus Ministries 

 Lunar New Year Celebration 🧧🐎 – Year of the Horse!
Celebrate the Year of the Horse with us at a festive Lunar New Year event full of culture, community, and fun! Enjoy traditional treats and snacks, make your own crafts, read your fortune, and take part in activities that highlight the richness of Lunar New Year traditions. Whether you’re familiar with the holiday or curious to learn more, all are welcome to join in the celebration!

Holi at the Hearst | Mar 6th | 5-7pm | Hearst Center for the Arts 

Celebrate the vibrant Festival of Colors with us at Holi at the Hearst! Enjoy an evening filled with traditional snacks, hands-on crafts, music, and community fun. The highlight of the night — color throwing begins at 6:00 PM — so come ready to get colorful! Holi is a joyful celebration of spring, renewal, and togetherness, and everyone is welcome to join. Wear white, bring your friends, and experience the magic of Holi through culture, creativity, and connection!

Soccer Showdown | April 12th | 5-7pm | Bender Hall Fields

Kick off your Sunday with some friendly competition at our Sunday Soccer Showdown! All skill levels are welcome -- just bring your energy, your team spirit, and your game face!

Japanese Festival | April 17 | 6-8pm | Maucker Union Ballrooms 

Step into a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture! Join us for the Japanese Festival, featuring a traditional shrine setup, delicious Japanese foods, hands-on cultural crafts, powerful Taiko drumming performances, yukata try-ons, and so much more. Experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of Japan in a fun and welcoming environment — perfect for everyone curious to learn and celebrate this rich culture. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable festival!
