Cultural activities are an integral part of international education at UNI. The OIE provides a variety of fun and entertaining opportunities for our students to experience everyday life in the Midwest.
Here are some of activities we provide

The UNI Office of International Engagement is kicking off the fall season with a fun-filled lineup of events just for YOU! Whether you’re looking to explore Iowa’s beauty, connect with new friends, or enjoy some cozy fall vibes and great food, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this semester.
Fall 2026
Moonfire Ridge Visit | September 5th | 12-5pm | Sign Up Here
Escape to Moonfire Ridge for the ultimate outdoor afternoon! Kayak, canoe, swim, or fish on the water, play soccer and volleyball with friends, and drive a real tractor. We’ll take care of free transportation, a full lunch, and s'mores around the fire—you just need to bring yourself! Transportation provided by the Office of International Engagement. Sign up REQUIRED.
Wave Your Flag w UNIDos | September 9th | TIME TBD | Location TBD
Kick off Hispanic Heritage Month by leaving your mark on campus! Join us to color country flags, decorate the Multicultural Center, and hang out with fellow students. All supplies are provided—just bring your creativity and come ready to connect!
Mid Autumn Festival with the Hearst | September 18th | 5-7pm | Hearst Center for the Arts
Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with OIE and the Hearst Center for the Arts! Enjoy a festive evening filled with mooncakes, painting your own lanterns, trying hands-on calligraphy, and exploring traditional cultural activities. It’s free and open to all—come enjoy the food, light, and traditions of the season!
Homecoming Parade; International Float! | October 10th | Downtown Cedar Falls
Show your global pride and walk with OIE in the UNI Homecoming Parade through Downtown Cedar Falls! Dress in traditional clothing from your home country, carry a flag, wave to the crowds, and throw candy as we celebrate our international community together. Sign Up Here
Halloween Party: Boo Bash | October 30th | 7-9pm | 2422 College Street, Cedar Falls, Iowa
Celebrate Halloween with OIE at the annual Boo Bash! Put on your best costume and join us for a fun night of games, sweet treats, music, and spooky holiday traditions. Come hang out, carve pumpkin, compete in punch pong, and enjoy the party with international and domestic friends!
Taste of Culture | November 17th | 4:30-7pm | Maucker Union Ballrooms
Take your tastebuds on a global journey at OIE's annual Taste of Culture! We invite students, faculty, staff, and community members to share their heritage—host a country table, perform on stage, or run a cultural activity. Prefer to just enjoy the fun? Come sample traditional dishes, watch live performances, and experience traditions from around the world!
Adult Programming at the Cedar Falls Library: Kosovo | December 9th | 6:30-8pm | Cedar Falls Public Library
Join us at the Cedar Falls Public Library for a special evening exploring the culture, history, and traditions of Kosovo! Presented by a current international student, experience a piece of the Balkans right here in Iowa!
End of Session Celebration | December 4th | 5-6pm | Maucker Union
Wrap up the semester and celebrate all your hard work with OIE! Join us at the Maucker Union to relax, enjoy delicious treats, reflect on great memories, and say goodbye to the term. Also, take the time to recognize and celebrate our graduates and their hard work!
Holiday Desserts and MORE! | December 22nd | 3-5pm | Location TBD
Get into the festive spirit with OIE! Take a break from the winter chill to sample a sweet array of traditional holiday desserts from around the world, enjoy warm drinks, and make your own sugar cookies to take home. Bring your appetite and your holiday cheer—all sweet tooths welcome!
