International students are an important part of the diversity and education at UNI.
The International Admissions Office assist students as they enroll and prepare to study.
The Office of International Engagement assists students during pre-arrival, once arrived and provides services throughout the year to help students as they transition, explore and embrace the experience of studying abroad.
A unique feature at UNI is the Culture & Intensive English Program (CIEP) that helps both domestic and international students practice and enhance their English speaking, reading and conversation skills.
Before You Arrive
Get a Visa
It is important to enter the United States with the proper visa. You must apply for and receive a F-1 or J-1 visa so you enter the U.S.
When to Arrive
It is important to time your arrival according to the date on your I-20 or DS-2019.
Find Housing
Plan on living on campus?
Fill out the contract to live on campus.
Health Insurance
You are required to purchase UNI health insurance for you and your dependents.
Prepare for Arrival

Change of Address
All F-1 and J-1 students who move are required to update their new address within 10 days of their move. This includes the initial move-in when you arrive to UNI.
Orientation
Orientation for international students is mandatory. Trainings, tours and networking are spread over three to five days.
Enroll in Classes
During Orientation you will enroll in classes for the semester. You can work with International Admissions if you have any questions or need any help with enrolling in classes.
Maintain Your Legal Status
Certain requirements must be met and maintained throughout your program to maintain international study.
