International Family Friendship Program
The International Family Friendship Program (FFP) at the University of Northern Iowa is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building lasting connections across cultures.
The International Family Friendship Program brings together international students and families from the Cedar Valley area to form genuine friendships through shared meals, conversations, and activities. For students, the program offers firsthand insight into American culture and traditions. For families, it’s a chance to learn about the world without leaving home.
“Helping students improve their skills in English is one of my favorite things. Sharing our life on an acreage with its big yard, garden, and many pets leads to discussions and discoveries. Mowing the yard with the John Deere riding mower a highlight for some”
- Fayth, Family Friendship Program Volunteer
“During my first CIEP lab, one of the girls in my conversation group mentioned she loved Harry Potter. Much to my surprise, I found a copy of the first volume for fifty cents at the library’s Book Nook. I asked their chaperone if I could buy it for her, and he assured me that would be fine. She was moved to tears when I gave it to her…Before she left, she gave me a drawing she made of us together at the Frank Lloyd Wright house. I cried, as I was so touched by this gesture”
