Welcome to UNI; Notes from our Ambassadors

As UNI looks to continue welcoming it's 150th class to campus, our Global Panther Success Ambassadors shared their hopes and wishes for Future International Panthers.

UNI and the Office of International Engagement welcome new international students to campus every Fall and Spring, in addition to midterm Orientations through the Cultural and Intensive English Program. In total, this adds up to FIVE Orientations a year, growing our campus community one student at a time.

Our Global Panther Success Ambassadors are scholarship students that submit essays, interview, and apply to be a part of this program. The aim of which supports direct peer to peer support through airport pick up, Orientation, to graduation. At one time, each of our GPS Ambassadors have gone trough their own journeys to campus and to their own International Student Orientation.

As the Office of International Engagement loots to welcome another group of Global Panthers, these students share their hopes, wishes, advice, and congratulations to the students that have strived and overcome insurmountable challenges to make it here.

Hear from our Ambassadors

Dear beautiful people,
Welcome to this peaceful and beautiful place you can call home. I understand it's a huge decision to leave your home country to come and study here. Here is one I wish I has known before coming here. The educational system requires hard work and education. Once you stay focused you will definitely get the best out of it. Also, no one will judge you for speaking up when you had ideas, learn to share them at the appropriate time.

Dear fellow Ghanian - onua, mesee...
I'm so glad you chose UNI. I know you're going to love it here -except the cold weather of course! I love it now though - making a snowman this winter was so cool. As you begin your UNI journey, be bold, take advantage of all campus resources, and do not be afraid to ask for help. I wish I know this earlier. There are so many people more than willing to help and support you in most things. Don't be stuck with Ghanian meals -- try new food. Enjoy your time int he USA, but remember to say "no" when time is of the essence.

Dear Future Panther,
First, congratulations on this new chapter of your life. As you start this chapter, remember to have fun. You are always supported. It is easy to get carried away over thinking the negatives, but always remember to take a step back and reflect on the good things. When things get complicated, we forget about the good, You are here for a reason!! You've Got This.

Dear Future Panther,
Welcome to the family! As someone who moved from Egypt to UNI not too long ago, I know exactly how you're feeling right now: a mix of massive excitement & those "did I pack the right things" nerves. I'm here to be your friends and your guide as you start this incredible chapter in the USA. You're joining a home away from home. We've been waiting for you and we can't wait to see the unique mark you leave here.
Safe Travels!
