CIEP Students Showcase Home Countries at Cedar Valley Preschool
International students visited the Cedar Valley Community Preschool to educate children who took part in the preschool's summer program as a part of OIE’s community outreach program. Elizabeth Baby, a graduate student from India, and Yuki Kanda, a past participant in CIEP, were able to meet with the children and discuss topics such as language, culture, traditions, food, and clothing.
Both Baby and Kanda put together a presentation for the group of preschoolers, along with additional activities along with treats shipped from their home country.
“As an international student, being able to engage with people in the community has helped me develop cultural awareness of the society I live in while also introducing my country and culture to the people here,” said Baby.
Each of these presentations were an absolute success with the children as they learned and took part in a variety of cultural activities that, without this partnership, might not have been possible.
